General Information About Undergraduate Auditions
You may play your audition on a Ball State University harp, usually a Lyon & Healy Style 23.  You will have an opportunity to warm up in the studio or in a harp practice room for at least half an hour before your audition.  You are welcome to perform on your own instrument if you wish, but because of the high demand for practice rooms on audition days we can't guarantee that there will be one available for you for warmup.

Auditions last about 30 minutes and take place in the harp studio.  After you play you will have time to ask questions.   If you have not taken a lesson with me prior to the audition, I encourage you to schedule one later in the day.  As we work together for an hour you will get a good idea of my teaching approach, and I will have  the opportunity to assess your potential in greater depth than is possible in a brief audition.

In addition to applying to the School of Music, you must also apply to and be accepted by Ball State University.  We recommend that you submit the university application before you come for your audition.

Theory and Piano Placement Exams
On your audition day you will take a music theory exam in order to determine your readiness for college-level music theory. You will also take a piano diagnostic exam for placement, and an aural skills exam.   These exams are for placement within our program and are not part of the decision process to gain acceptance to the program.  However, you must pass the theory placement test in order to register for freshman theory.
